“TEFFFES BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENT”
Jim Foley Community Centre was full of excitement as the ambient was one that expressed and displayed true cultural identity as The Economic Forum For Family Empowerment Scotland celebrated this year’s “BLACK HISTORY MONTH ” yesterday, Sunday 27th October 2024.
This year’s event with the Theme: ” Embracing Heritage, Reclaiming Narratives” is one not to be forgotten any time soon as it was bumper packed as it showcased the richness in African Arts, Culture , Heritage, Songs, Dances, Fashion, Foods etc as well as keynote speakers that spoke extensively on the theme.
We did had great keynote speakers that took turns to addressing and speaking on the importance of this year’s theme and how to embrace as well as sustaining our heritages. These speakers includes: Dr Marcus Ekure Researcher, Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Social Innovation, University of Strathclyde and Clare Adamson MSP, ( Member of Scottish Parliament) Motherwell and Wishaw that delved deeply on the theme while other Guest Speakers which includes Jim Lannigan . Ex- prison officer, former manager of Liber8 Lanarkshire (Drug and alcohol service) now business development officer with Thistle Credit Union; Yvonne Gallacher. A qualified therapist with a degree in education and social services; Olorogun Chief Oghenetega Harryson Odjokoh Traditional ruler and High Chief which some of them did shared their thoughts and views.
The audience had wonderful experience as they got to appreciate the cultural heritage more from listening and learning from each of the resource persons
The event got our guests and participants richly dressed in various African attires and costumes with the Rising Stars displaying their dancing talent in Atilogwu which is a spirited youth dance from the Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria, masquerade display and dance, various African food etc all of which is to sharpened their personalities and identities of the African tradition and culture making the venue a site of attraction. We also had lots to drink and eat as it was fun all the way.
We sincerely want to thank everyone of making this year’s event a success especially our various speakers, kids, members and well wishers that turned up for us.
